2. To Have and To Hold by Catherine Carr

“This is my version of the “To Have and To Hold” wedding ring quilt. I made it in 2015 as a gift for my niece’s wedding. I raided my mother’s and my stashes to find over 50 different shades from 5 colour groups for the pinwheels and rings. My sister bought the background materials, batten and paid to have it quilted in a random meander of hearts and swirls. This made it a generational heirloom gift from my sister, (her mom), my mother, (grandma) and myself. (I’m in red). For the back of the quilt, I made 2 ladders that corporate all the colours used in the rings and pinwheels. Then I used her favourite colour as the background. This was the first time I had ever attempted to make a quilt with curved pieces. I guess I was too naive to know any better, so I just did it. Very happy with the results.” – Catherine Carr
